The Attorney General’s website has a page on Earned Sick Time that is a resource for employers and employees to learn about the new law that went into effect on July 1, 2015. The AG is also offering five web-based and three in-person public information sessions about the Earned Sick Time Law. These two-hour sessions, conducted by a staff member, will review the law’s regulations and allow time for questions from attendees. Those interested are asked to RSVP to a session, which are being held during July, August, and September.

Heroin Epidemic
My wife and her friends, who see and feel the devastation first hand, have the right idea. A lot of these girls, mainly girls in our world, need a home, decent food, therapy yes, but more than anything they need isolation from the drug itself until they can be pronounced cured. And that takes a lot of time and a lot of commitment, something the mothers can provide if the resources are there.
Lyme Disease Treatment Coverage
Senator Brownsberger received many emails like the one in this post encouraging him to co-sponsor SD985, An Act relative to Lyme Disease treatment coverage. In response to these requests, Senator Brownsberger has signed on to co-sponsor this important bill.
Reproductive Health Care Access Legislation

GMOs: Revisited
Now that last session’s legislation on genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in food products has been refiled, I’m trying to gauge interest in a local symposium on the subject. We could put together a program of informed presenters on the science and the legal framework and have a discussion someplace in my district. I’d also welcome further discussion at this site.
Ebola and the Flu
Recently, Senate President Murray hosted a conference on health care information systems. A highlight of the conference was a talk by Dr. Mike Wong about the Ebola epidemic and the information we have about it. Here is the very detailed PowerPoint from Dr. Wong’s talk, which gives a lot of background on the epidemic and many glimmers of hope for a cure or for vaccines.
