Most of my colleagues in the legislature have endorsed a pending bill that would require labeling of foods produced from genetically modified farm crops. I’ve been a skeptic of the bill. The threshold question we have to ask is: can we successfully force a new Massachusetts food labeling system on the rest of the country?
Mark your calendars to attend this GMO Forum hosted by legislators in the 2nd Suffolk and Middlesex District on Tuesday, October 20, 7:00-9:00 PM, Watertown Middle School Auditorium, 68 Waverley Avenue, Watertown. This free public forum features four academic panelists and will provide substantive information on the science, economics, legal and regulatory frameworks, and health/environmental impacts of GMOs. There will be time for audience questions and comments. Please share the event flyer to spread awareness of the forum.
Now that last session’s legislation on genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in food products has been refiled, I’m trying to gauge interest in a local symposium on the subject. We could put together a program of informed presenters on the science and the legal framework and have a discussion someplace in my district. I’d also welcome further discussion at this site.
