A medical marijuana dispensary has been proposed on Harvard Avenue in Allston and is moving through the state approval process. The company has secured signatures on a petition indicating non-opposition from nearby businesses and a letter of support from the Allston Civic Association. In November 2012, 65% of voters approved a ballot question to legalize medical marijuana.

Most of my colleagues in the legislature have endorsed a pending bill that would require labeling of foods produced from genetically modified farm crops. I’ve been a skeptic of the bill. The threshold question we have to ask is: can we successfully force a new Massachusetts food labeling system on the rest of the country?

District Forum on GMOs and GMO Labeling, October 20, 7-9 PM, Watertown
Mark your calendars to attend this GMO Forum hosted by legislators in the 2nd Suffolk and Middlesex District on Tuesday, October 20, 7:00-9:00 PM, Watertown Middle School Auditorium, 68 Waverley Avenue, Watertown. This free public forum features four academic panelists and will provide substantive information on the science, economics, legal and regulatory frameworks, and health/environmental impacts of GMOs. AG’s Office offers information sessions on Earned Sick Time
The Attorney General’s website has a page on Earned Sick Time that is a resource for employers and employees to learn about the new law that went into effect on July 1, 2015. The AG is also offering five web-based and three in-person public information sessions about the Earned Sick Time Law. These two-hour sessions, conducted by a staff member, will review the law’s regulations and allow time for questions from attendees. Those interested are asked to RSVP to a session, which are being held during July, August, and September.
