Resolutions to encourage equitable and diverse gender representation on the boards of companies in the Commonwealth

Senator Brownsberger received several emails, the text of which appears below, requesting that he co-sponsor legislation to encourage equitable and diverse gender representation on boards of directors:

I urge you to co-sponsor a resolution (Docket # SD1084) calling for gender diversity on MA company boards of directors by the January 30 deadline. The resolution calls on companies in Massachusetts to adopt policies to increase the number of women on their boards of directors and senior management groups and set goals by which to measure their progress. Diverse gender representation in the leadership ranks of Massachusetts companies is key to enhancing MA’s competitive position in the global economy.

In response to these requests, Senator Brownsberger signed on to this legislation as a co-sponsor. You can find the text of the legislation here; its actual docket number is SD1048.

  1. No doubt the white men’s club needs to be penetrated. But it doesn’t seem right to encourage gender diversity and not racial diversity too. Racial diversity is arguably the bigger issue.
