Boston MPO Long-Range Transportation Plan Public Meeting

From the Boston MPO:

The Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) would like your participation in a discussion about how to evaluate the equity of its long-range plan for transportation in the region.

What is the Boston Region MPO?

The Boston Region MPO conducts regional transportation planning for the 97 municipalities in the Boston region, allocating state and federal transportation funds to programs and projects—roadway, transit, bicycle, and pedestrian—that meet the MPO’s transportation vision for the region.

What is the Long Range Transportation Plan?

Every four years, the MPO creates a Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) to address existing and future mobility needs. The LRTP allocates funding for major transportation projects in the Boston region. The MPO is currently developing a new LRTP, Destination 2040.

Why does your participation matter?

The projects in the LRTP will impact the region in various ways, including changing air quality, congestion, and access to jobs. Help identify the impacts of the transportation system that are most important to you and your community. The MPO will use this information to evaluate the equity of the group of projects in the LRTP.

  1. I would like to attend the meeting if my schedule allows…

I am also curious how is the long range plan defined. When we talk about long range, is it generally in the time frame of 10 years forward, or 20 years forward? My concern is that I might not be here anymore when the plan is finally materialized.

I don’t mind that MBTA planning for the next generation of Mass residences. But is there anyway to speed things up?
