We do need to be open to non-fossil energy sources including nuclear. I don’t oppose nuclear power categorically. However, I don’t feel that federal or state governments should assume the risk of failure of nuclear plants — through loan guarantees or otherwise. Nuclear plants should move forward if and only if they are safe enough that their private sector owners are willing to take full financial responsibility for them.
