Details of MBTA Staff Recommendations

Today, MBTA staff announced final recommendations that will be presented to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation Board for approval.  On behalf of Senator Brownsberger and our office, I would like to share some specifics about these recommendations.

• These final recommendations do not entirely eliminate any bus routes in the district.  A few routes may see a reduction in frequency, but they will still run if these recommendations are approved.
• The 351 will see a reduction in frequency.  Rather than 30 minutes between trips, the 351 will run every 45 minutes.
• The 554 will be cut on Saturdays, but this route will continue to operate on weekdays.
• Service on the 52 will be reduced in frequency from 45 to 90 minutes in midday, and this route will be eliminated on Saturdays.  It currently does not run on Sundays.
• Green Line “E” Branch service will be eliminated on the weekends between Brigham Circle and Heath Street.  Trains will now turn around at Brigham Circle.  However, the 39 bus, which runs parallel to the E line, will still be available on the weekends.
• 23% overall fare increase
• No reduction in RIDE service
• Fares will increase for the RIDE.  Within the RIDE territory, a single ride will cost $4 rather than the existing $2.  A $5 premium fare will take effect for non-ADA trips.
