H3575, An Act relative to certain licenses for the sale of alcoholic beverages in the city of Boston

Senator Brownsberger submitted the following testimony to the Committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure

TO:                  Joint Committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure

FROM:             Senator William N. Brownsberger

RE:                   H3575

DATE:              November 12th, 2013

I am writing in support of H3575, An Act relative to certain licenses for the sale of alcoholic beverages in the city of Boston.

This home rule petition will enable certain non-profits to obtain Special Licenses to sell alcoholic beverages notwithstanding any limitations on the number of licenses allowed in the City of Boston.  Many of these organizations, serve as important gathering places in their communities.  Allowing the sale of alcoholic beverages generates revenue that offsets operation costs.

I hope the committee will report H3575 favorably.
