Supporting Dignity

Yesterday, the Senate passed three bills supporting the dignity of individuals.

It was a good day — all three bills were passed by unanimous (40-0) roll call votes in the Senate. This again demonstrates the Senate’s bipartisan commitment to preserving individual liberty and dignity in Massachusetts. Here is a link to the Senate’s press release regarding the first two bills. It offers comments from Senators and advocates.

  1. A good day indeed! And I appreciated the opportunity to meet with your staff yesterday along with a half dozen other constituents from Belmont to advocate for your continued support for S644, the statewide bill to phase out rodenticides that are devastating our hawks, owls, and eagles to pave the way for safer means of rodent control. It was inspiring to be a part of the wonderful turnout of table advocates, speakers, and visits from several raptor guests in the Great Hall.

    1. Thank you, Wendy, for taking part in that. Such important action for the health of our non-human neighbors

      1. I didn’t even know there was any organized caring about this issue. Thanks, everyone involved, for acting on this.

    2. Growing up in Chicago the city provided 55 gallon steel drums and drum lids for our trash and as I read this I cannot recall ever seeing rats in Rogers Park. (Mayor Byrne upgraded the lids with lighter galvanized? lids with a handle.) In Chicago we were blessed with alleyways and didn’t need to move our barrels, but why can’t we provide light, galvanized trash cans with wheels? Almost every single plastic trash can I walk by has a hole with signature rat teeth marks.

As usual your work really appreciated. now need to deal with Gambling, no, and better lawyer compensation yes and all the other other bills on the table

      1. Thank you for getting these three bills passed.
Now, how about the audit of the legislature that the voters overwhelmingly approved? It has not yet been done!

        1. Don’t hold your breath.

          1. How much funding will be….
          3. Where’s our audit of the Legislature that we voted on?

          The shelter issue is…
Our books are part of the Commonwealth’s books which are already fully audited. We additionally have annual legislative audits.”

I interpret this as “NOT GONNA HAPPEN” It’s stonewalling all the way down.

          1. Democracy for thee, but not for me. Across the nation we are not seeing our grandparents’ Progressives. Today, we are not seeing American Progressivism rooted in the progress of America and Western Civilization. Today, we are seeing a shallow, self-serving, base and degenerate ideology. Optimistic establishment “progressives” are blind to the endpoint. Desperate establishment Democrats are but ghosts, specters who are in total denial that they have no purchase upon this earth. Their talking head politicians and surrogates haunt us by pointing fingers while offering nothing. But each cast stone is a damning indictment of the Democratic Party itself. With every breath wasted on blaming Trump for being a conservative and a Republican is a lost opportunity to say “this is what we are doing for America.” (Unless what Democrats are doing for America is not such a good thing. And, the Socialist true believers who are the squatters inhabiting the mortal remains and sheep’s skin of the Democratic Party.

    1. Work on gambling? Massachusetts elected officials did everything in their power to usher in gambling in spite of their sworn duty to protect the citizens of tue Commonwealth. Massachusetts partisan ship is window dressing. A ruse.

As an aside, people keep wondering about a “course correction” and an “autopsy” of the Democratic Party. There will be no course correction. This is the course. There will be no announcement, no fanfare. The measure upon measure of silence from the old establishment Dems is all the notice we get to mark the death of the American Democratic Party and the transition to the “different thing.”

  3. Thank you both for your work on these bills and for letting us know. We all need good news these days!

  4. This is good, thank you. The laws may be archaic and rarely enforced, but we are seeing archaic laws being used in nefarious ways by our federal government these days, so you can’t be too careful.

Also, like to lend my support for the Belmont constituents who are advocating for S644! I worry a lot about wildlife and the proliferance of rodenticides.

  5. As I said before…The first item harms no one. This is simply historical vandalism and the “tearing down of statues.” This is an exercise in ending history and policing language. This only serves to stroke the egos of a number of people whose instinct and drive is to control is to control other people.

  6. Great work Will!
Let’s get Dignity Not Deportation, and Safe Communities Act bills out of committee to ways and means and to the Governor’s desk ASAP. Our communities can not wait because of ICE terrorism and lawlessness.

    1. Terrorism?

The Islamist Boston Marathon bombings was terrorism.

The Saudi Islamist 9/11 attacks were terrorism.

The Islamist 7/7 terrorist attacks in London was terrorism.

The Islamist Charlie Hebdo attacks were terrorism. (6-3-11 FRNC Btw)

The Islamic murder of Theo van Gogh was terrorism.

The IS Nice truck ramming was terrorism.

Border enforcement and repatriation is not terrorism nor is it tyranny.

Politicians who don’t call out this inflammatory, insurrectionary rhetoric are blessing this talk by their silence.

      1. Yes, this is a tragedy, but the cruelty was perpetrated by standing down at the border and the cynical and self-serving inducements of the Progressive Party’s “sanctuary stratagem” playing out in municipalities and whole states.

The perversion of the open border policy trading on our sovereignty and Constitution for unchecked migration and calling enforcement and the repair of our system of laws terrorism os beyond through the looking glass.

        1. It’s the same breed of perversion of expecting the Israelites to surrender sovereignty of Judea and Samaria.

          1. AND- and, it’s the same breed of perversity that holds Israel responsible for one iota of the misery, death and destruction of fighting a war against nihilistic enemies both within its territory and surrounding (and abroad) bent on Israel’s eradication.

  7. Thank you for getting these three bills passed.
Now, how about the audit of the legislature that the voters overwhelmingly approved? It has not yet been done!

  8. Whew, Will — good work. It seems like a generation ago these liberties might’ve been called ‘common courtesy’. The unanimity is a point to cheer about, especially given attitudes now widely held elsewhere.
