National Food Day at Belmont Acres Farm

Mike and Hermik who run Belmont Acres Farm offered these photos and report their celebration of National Food Day.

On October 25th, farmers and friends of Belmont Acres Farm gathered to celebrate National Food Day. There were cooking and canning demonstrations using seasonal produce harvested from the farm. Everyone enjoyed the fantastic weather as they were given a tour of the farm. Amongst visitors was Senator Will Brownsberger, who engaged in lively conversation with the farmer and volunteers about the importance of eating local/seasonal food and the challenges of operating a small family farm. Thanks to all participants, the event was a success and created the connections for a continued dialogue about food.

I was very impressed by the good work they are doing to make the last local farm in Belmont sustainable. Thanks also to the Ogilby family for declining to develop this land for other purposes.
