The DCR has awarded a contract to develop an approach to improving the system of intersections around Mt. Auburn Street and Fresh Pond Parkway. The accepted proposal conveys a strong understanding of the problems around the intersection and the potential for change. It contemplates an early public meeting and we will make sure that this is publicized broadly when it is scheduled.

Planning for more flooding
Climate change is creating more rainfall and higher sea levels, both of which will contribute to more flooding in our neighborhoods. We have a couple of decades before the problems really come home, but the lead times are long for major projects. Understanding the risks and building regional momentum to respond will remain a continuing priority of mine over the years to come.
Public Records Reform
The Senate Ways and Means Committee yesterday released the Senate’s Public Records reform bill. It is a big step forward that has pleased advocates for reform. I will be supporting the bill — transparency has been an important theme in my work. One issue that I am interested in feedback on is attorneys fees. I would also really appreciate hearing any personal experiences you have had with this issue generally.
OK, let’s ban hand-held cell phone use while driving.
I’ve gotten a huge volume of feedback on the legislative proposal to ban hand-held phone use. The feedback I have received has convinced me to support the proposal.
Ban hand-held cell phone use while driving?
Next week, the Senate will vote on a proposal to ban use of hand-held cell phones while driving. As a frequent cyclist, I am a “vulnerable road user” and do live in fear of distracted drivers. But I am not sure how I’ll vote yet. I’d really like to hear from folks on this one.
Animal abuse registry
I’ve recently received dozens of emails urging me to support legislating creating an animal abuser registry. I support the goals of this legislation, but I think it needs more work.
