2015-2016 Gas Leaks Legislation

A recent article in the Boston Globe has drawn attention back to the more than 20,000 active natural gas leaks across the state. The 2014 gas leaks legislation created a registry and a three tiered classification system to prioritize and mandate repairs for the two larger classes of leaks. There are two bills relative to gas leaks that are under consideration in the current session.

State Funding for Local Housing Authorities

In April, Senator Brownsberger presented a letter to Town Meeting regarding the Belmont Housing Authority’s application for Community Preservation Act funds to help pay for an electrical upgrade at one of its properties. The Belmont Board of Selectmen responded expressing concern that the state is providing insufficient financial support for the local housing authority. Trapelo Road Construction Update

Recently, Senator Brownsberger hosted a meeting with officials from MassDOT to get an update on the Trapelo Road reconstruction project. The project, scheduled to be completed in September, will take longer than anticipated, but the most challenging work is already complete and MassDOT does not expect any further major delays.
