TRAFFIC ALERT: BOWKER OVERPASS CLOSURES

Notice from MassDOT appears below. Please note, last night Jay Livingstone and I did a site visit to the Bowker and measured noise levels from the banging of traffic plates. MassDOT has been very responsive on noise issues and is looking into this one. We will continue to engage with new issues as they develop.

Effective Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, MassDOT will be closing the ramp from Storrow Drive eastbound to the Fenway via the Bowker Overpass, and the right travel lane beginning at the ramp on Storrow Drive westbound to the Fenway via the Bowker Overpass. See map below.

The closures will be implemented between the hours of 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The closures will be implemented daily, Monday through Friday, next week.

On Saturday, these restrictions will be in place beginning at 7 a.m. through 11 p.m.

The closures are required to allow for the demolition and removal of portions of the existing bridge deck and installation of temporary road plates.

Lane closures on Commonwealth Avenue and Beacon Street will also be implemented on an as-needed basis to facilitate the staging of equipment for demolition and removal of the bridge deck of the overpass. These lane restrictions will fall within the same window as the ramp closures.

In 2009, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) was created to unify the state’s various transportation agencies. MassDOT now includes the Highway Division, the MBTA and Rail Transit Division, the Aeronautics Division, and the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
