Senator Brownsberger has recently submitted the following testimony on S.1989, An Act relative to vehicle recalls:
TO: Joint Committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure
FROM: Senator William N. Brownsberger
RE: S1989, An Act relative to vehicle recalls
DATE: September 14th, 2015
I am writing in support of S1989, An Act relative to vehicle recalls.
This bill would require notification to drivers of all outstanding manufacturer recalls at the time of annual inspection. Currently as part of clean air regulations, drivers are notified at the time of inspection of open recalls to their emissions system. In an effort to improve vehicle safety this bill seeks to expand the notice requirement to include all outstanding recalls. All inspection stations are currently required to have the capability to provide information about open emissions recalls, so it is not expected that this would place any new burdens upon inspection station operators.
I believe this legislation will improve vehicle safety in the Commonwealth and I hope the committee will report S1989 favorably.

Given the large variety of cars – makes, models, different years, and the many things that can break, etc, this does seem like a LOT of information for the gas stations to be able to provide. I’ve tried to get this information on my own two cars from the NTSB web site and that wasn’t easy.
How about just having the inspection stations give us a card telling us how to find out on our own? Government doesn’t have to do EVERYTHING for us, we are adults after all!
If you want to improve vehicle safety, how about more money to fix the roads?? Now that would improve safety a lot!
Yes please.
