The impact of sea level rise and flooding was the subject of the lead editorial in the Boston Globe on Sunday, Sept., 8. This is an issue that Senator Brownsberger hasĀ been following closely and working to address. He is the lead sponsorship of bill S.344, which calls for creating a process to address catastrophic flooding in Massachusetts.
As the Globe editorial states, “A half a trillion dollars of Boston waterfront is at risk.”
Here is a link to an article that Will wrote for the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts on Preparing for Storm Surge. He discusses how sea level rise threatens many critical components of our infrastructure.
Sea level rise is a consequence of climate change, and Senator Brownsberger is focused on moving to a fossil free future with a clean energy economy. He is a co-sponsor of bill H.2935, An Act to transition to a clean energy Commonwealth. Senator Brownsberger wants us to move to a coal free Massachusetts. He believes, “movement to a clean energy economy is a moral priority.”
In addition, he supports bill S.1225, An Act relative to public investment in fossil fuels. The bill calls for Massachusetts to divest from investments in fossil fuel companies.
