Spring is in full swing across the area and with this nice weather it is time for local residents to get out and enjoy the many recreation opportunities afforded to them. Along the Mystic there are plenty of opportunities to boat, paddle, run/walk on the shores, fish, bike and swim. However, many opportunities for recreation are limited due to access issues and lack of water quality awareness.
The Mystic River Watershed Association is raising awareness of these opportunities through events like the Herring Run and Paddle that includes a 5K run/walk race, three paddling races (3, 9, and 12 miles), educational booths, children’s activities, and more. All events are held at the
DCR Blessing of the Bay Boathouse in Somerville. The 5K course continues along the Mystic River bike path and through DCR Torbert MacDonald Park. There are no street crossings on this flat course.
Hope you can join the fun on Sunday, May 17th in Somerville.
As the weather warms up and the Mystic River becomes a focal point of recreation, we hope that Senator Brownsberger will keep the local residents’ needs in mind and consider emphasizing recreational opportunities in your legislation and decision making this year.
