The Office of Boston Mayor Thomas Menino hosted a legislative briefing this morning to update legislators and staff on the development of a new student assignment and school choice plan for the Boston Public Schools.
As part of an effort to explore new methods of student assignment in the Boston Public Schools, an External Advisory Committee was appointed by Boston Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Carol Johnson to engage the community in the process and to provide feedback to the school district on several proposals.
The committee will be holding two public meetings in the near future to review three proposals that seek to ensure equitable and predictable access to quality schools closer to students’ homes. The proposals all seek to maintain diversity, and no plan would go into effect until the 2014-2015 school year.
Tomorrow, the committee will be meeting at Suffolk University from 6 – 8:30 pm. The committee will be meeting again on February 4, 2013 at the Orchard Gardens School in Roxbury from 6-8 pm, where the committee will review the proposals and invite community comment.
