September 29, 2014
Greetings Senator Brownsberger,
You may recall from a prior email that I reported on many great efforts underway to remove the invasive plant, water chestnut, from the Mystic River this summer. I’m happy to report that this season was the most successful to date! More than 6,603 baskets of water chestnuts were hand-pulled from the Mystic by 941 volunteers. An additional 1,000 tons were removed by the mechanical harvester. I encourage you to read more about the Mystic River Water Chestnut Removal Project, including the diverse list of project partners and to watch this video , produced by Somerville Neighborhood News about the effort.
To learn more about this good work underway to restore the Mystic River, I hope you’ll attend the Mystic River Watershed Association’s, 2014 Annual Meeting . Join us on October 16 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Tufts University, 51 Winthrop Street, Medford for this informative and free event!
Please join us on Thursday, October 16th for the 2014 Annual Meeting!
Sincerely,
Karen L. Grossman
