I am writing in support of S246, An Act relative to healthy kids. As the number of cases concerning childhood obesity in the United States continues to rise, it is becoming all the more important for our schools to promote regular physical activity. As children spend a large majority of their time in school, it is the ideal environment to encourage children in controlling their weight and improving their health.
With less than half of Massachusetts high school students meeting recommendations for physical activity, the requirement of physical education in schools should make a significant difference to the health of our young people.
I hope that the Committee will be able to report S246 favorably.
