S1111, An Act relative to ski area operations

Senator Brownsberger submitted the following written testimony to the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security.

TO:           Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security

FROM:     Senator William N. Brownsberger

RE:            S1111, An Act relative to ski area operations

DATE:       April 3, 2013

I am writing in support of S1111, An Act relative to ski area operations.

The goal of S1111 is to improve safety at ski areas by requiring that the ski area offer helmets with all rentals.  It does not mandate the use of helmets; skiers would still assess their own abilities and the risks involved.

The bill also provides that ski areas must post their accident and safety records online for public access.

I hope that the Committee will report S1111 favorably.
