We are writing in enthusiastic support of the application by the Town of Belmont for a grant to provide safer travel, increased parking and aesthetic landscaping for Belmont Center.
With the recent closing of Macy’s, an anchor store in the Center for many years, there is an opportunity for the owner to plan to improve that property in a more attractive way that, with the improvements outlined in the application, will promote economic development in this important part of the town.
Belmont has been investing in this project since 2010 when the Traffic Advisory Committee held public hearings to discuss improvements to the Center. A concept plan was approved by the Selectmen in 2011 and the project has been in design since that time. The water infrastructure has already been upgraded by the DPW Water Division at a cost of $1.2 million to the town.
We believe that the Belmont Center Streetscape Improvements Project is vital for the economic rejuvenation of Belmont’s largest major commercial center and appreciate your consideration of this application.
Sincerely,
William N. Brownsberger David Rogers
