The I90 Median Barrier Replacement Project has already appeared in the headlines for delays caused by lane closures related to construction. This project is scheduled to take two years to complete, below is the project timeline from MassDOT:
I-90 Traffic Impacts
Phase I: August 2014 to January 2015:
- Approximate 6 month closure of left (high speed) lane on I-90 EB & WB to create work zones for Median Barrier Replacement and Substructure Rehabilitation work, maintaining three lanes of traffic in each direction on I-90 EB & WB during peak hours.
- Short-term duration (nighttime and weekends) closures of an additional lane on I-90 EB & WB will be provided beginning around 10pm through 5am the next morning on a regular basis.
- Lane restrictions at the Allston-Brighton Tolls will be implemented to support the left (high speed) lane closure on I-90 impacting the I-90 EB on-ramp
Phase II: February 2015 to July 2015:
- Approximate 6 month closure of right (low speed) lane on I-90 EB & WB to create work zones for Substructure Rehabilitation work, maintaining three lanes of traffic in each direction on I-90 EB & WB during peak hours.
- Short-term duration (nighttime and weekends) closures of an additional lane on I-90 EB & WB will be provided beginning around 10pm through 5am the next morning on a regular basis.
- Lane restrictions at the Allston-Brighton Tolls will be implemented to support the right (low speed) lane closure on I-90 impacting the I-90 EB on-ramp
MassDOT has created a website for the project, with additional information and resources.
