  1. Councilor Angie Kounelis made these comments in response to DCR’s letter:

First and foremost, many thanks to the representatives from the Dept. of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) for listening to the concerns of the abutting Watertown residents. As we have been informed, possible changes may be coming to Greenough Blvd. The executive summary and proposed plans were offered to the Watertown Town Council as a courtesy presentation on 01/14/14. A neighborhood meeting and public meeting have followed.

With improvements sometimes come obstacles. Future developments in the Grove St. and Arsenal St. corridor will further stress the traffic flow in our already congested East End of Watertown neighborhoods. Lane restrictions on Greenough Blvd. may additionally compound the situation.

During the expanded traffic study process, I hope DCR will be soliciting input from the Watertown Planning Staff and Watertown Traffic Commission. The opportunity to fully vet the plans should be given to both residents and the Town’s professionals. Any and all changes in surrounding areas have far reaching impacts.

The enhancement efforts set forth by DCR and the Solomon Foundation are acknowledged and appreciated. Watertown residents, town-wide, have emphasized the importance of the Charles River to the Watertown community. Only by working together can we realize the true beauty of the Charles River Parklands at our doorstep.

    Best regards to all,

    Angie Kounelis
