The Governor signed the sentencing bill this morning. I am very hopeful, based on statements that many in leadership positions have made, that we will continue to work on these issues in the next session.
Over the past week, both branches of the legislature approved a compromise sentencing bill. The compromise is a very thoughtful improvement over the bill that I voted against last November, but it leaves much to be done.

The House and Senate are still conferencing their conflicting versions of a crime bill for this session. The Senate version of the bill included a number of positive elements that merit study.
