Belmont Solar Challenge: Community-based Group-purchasing of Photovoltaic Solar

Sustainable Belmont (http://www.sustainablebelmont.net) has a new committee, Belmont Solar Challenge (http://www.sustainablebelmont.net/?p=326), which is researching community-based group-purchasing for photovoltaic solar systems. We can be reached at BelmontSolarChallenge@gmail.com. Our goal is to make it easier and cheaper for homeowners, nonprofits, and small businesses in Belmont to find and purchase solar systems to satisfy their electricity needs. In Massachusetts, similar programs have been run through Solarize Mass (available only to towns with investor-owned utilities), communities with municipal electric companies (like Concord and Stow), and towns not chosen for the competitive Solarize Mass programs. See Will’s link (http://willbrownsberger.com/watertown-selected-2013-solarize-mass-program/) for Watertown being selected to participate in Solarize Mass.

We have a 2-question survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PTGFY7X in order to gauge the solar pv interest of Belmont residents. If you are interested in solar, please take our survey. We will not share your email with any outside parties, including any solar installer.

The committee consists of Rebecca McNeill, chair, Roger Colton, and me.

Thanks, and Happy Holidays,
Mark Davis
