As a legislative office, one of our functions is connecting constituents to government resources and state agencies. On this page, you will find information about frequently utilized resources and how we can help you navigate them.

Which level of government should I contact?

Some people who contact our office are unsure if their issue resides with the federal, state, or local government offices. Below are some examples of the types of issues within each jurisdiction to help you determine the best avenue for resolving your problem. 

Your elected officials are often able to connect you to the correct entity to resolve your issue; federal, state, and local contact information is provided for your reference.

Federal

Examples of federal issues include federal tax returns, immigration/visas/passports, Social Security, and federal student loan payments.

Common state issues include MassHealth, the RMV, the MBTA, unemployment, state tax returns, and consumer issues with the Attorney General.

Commonly Accessed State Resources

Attorney General’s Office

Attorney General Andrea Campbell’s Office is an advocate and resource for the people of Massachusetts in many ways, including protecting consumers, combating fraud and corruption, investigating and prosecuting crime, and protecting the environment, workers, and civil rights. 

Department of Conservation and Recreation

DCR manages state parks and oversees more than 450,000 acres throughout Massachusetts. It protects, promotes, and enhances the state’s natural, cultural, and recreational resources.

Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities

EOHLC oversees funding and resources to help people in Massachusetts live affordably and safely. 

Department of Mental Health

The Department of Mental Health, as the State Mental Health Authority, assures and provides access to services and supports to meet the mental health needs of individuals of all ages; enabling them to live, work and participate in their communities.

Department of Public Health

DPH keeps people healthy and communities strong. They promote the health and well-being of all residents by ensuring access to high-quality public health and healthcare services, focusing on prevention and wellness, and health equity for all.

DOR manages state taxes and child support. 

Department of Transitional Assistance

The Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) assists and empowers low-income individuals and families to meet their basic needs, improve their quality of life, and achieve long-term economic self-sufficiency. DTA serves one in seven residents of the Commonwealth with direct economic assistance (cash benefits) and food assistance (SNAP benefits), as well as workforce training opportunities. 

Department of Unemployment Assistance

DUA oversees the unemployment insurance (UI) program, which provides temporary income assistance to eligible workers in Massachusetts. DUA also determines and collects employer contributions to the UI program. 

Division of Insurance

The primary mission of the Division of Insurance (DOI) is to monitor the solvency of its licensees in order to promote a healthy, responsive and willing marketplace for consumers who purchase insurance products.

MBTA

As a division of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), the MBTA provides subway, bus, Commuter Rail, ferry, and paratransit service to eastern Massachusetts and parts of Rhode Island. 

Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination

If you were treated differently or unfairly based on your identity as a member of a protected class, you may file a Complaint of Discrimination at the MCAD. 

Massachusetts Department of Transportation

MassDOT oversees roads, public transit, aeronautics, and transportation licensing and registration in the US state of Massachusetts. 

MassHealth Customer Service Center

In Massachusetts, Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) are combined into one program called MassHealth. MassHealth members may be able to get doctors visits, prescription drugs, hospital stays, and many other important services. 

Registry of Motor Vehicles

RMV services include driver’s license and MassID issuance and renewal, traffic tickets, vehicle titles and registration, disability plates and placards, and more.

Greater Boston Legal Services

GBLS attorneys and paralegals provide critical legal advice and representation to low-income individuals.

Volunteer Lawyers Project

Services have been established by clearly identifying unmet legal needs in the community. They provide a range of crucial civil legal assistance; from information and advice, to referrals and court clinics, to full representation in trials and appeals.
