Senator Brownsberger has recently submitted the following testimony on S1132, An Act to protect children and families from harmful flame retardants and S1139, An Act relating to disclosure of toxic chemicals in consumer products:
TO: COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC HEALTH
FROM: SENATOR WILLIAM N. BROWNSBERGER
RE: S1132 and S1139
DATE: JUNE 18, 2015
I am writing in support of S.1132 (An Act to protect children and families from harmful flame retardants) and S. 1139/H. 697 (An Act Relating to Disclosure of Toxic Chemicals in Consumer Products ) which will require manufacturers to disclose toxic chemicals in children’s (and certain other) products sold in Massachusetts.
Toxic chemicals in consumer products are increasingly linked to serious health issues. It is time to phase out the use of toxic flame retardants so that all children’s products and household furniture are made more safely. Additionally, all manufacturers of children’s products should be required to disclose the toxic chemicals in their products.
I hope the Committee will give these bills a favorable report.
