We’re just getting started in the budget process and we’ll all carefully study the options.

This morning, I offered this comment to a journalist asking my views on the plan.
Like most legislators and most careful observers, and in fact, most leaders in the business community, I am convinced that we have to substantially increase our investment in transportation infrastructure, especially the MBTA. I like most of the Governor’s ideas about particular investments in transportation. That money will have to come from someplace and it won’t be painless — we’ve undertaken many cost-cutting reforms, but we can’t cut our way to a solution. I am also very conscious of a host of other needs in state and local government. I’m not sure what the fairest approach to raising needed funds is or how many of those other needs we can address this year. There will be a robust debate over the next few months.
