The Senate swearing in ceremony on Wednesday had all of the usual pomp and circumstance, but my office didn’t make a special event out of it — no after-party. New Senators typically bring in friends and campaign staff to witness the event, but returning Senators typically make it a lower key event. Although eternally grateful to be your Senator, that is the approach I took.
The event was most noteworthy for the Senate President’s speech, in which she laid out her priorities for the coming term. I especially welcomed her commitment to addressing infrastructure needs — the MBTA is a top priority for me — and also her commitment to address gun violence and early voting, which many constituents have contacted me about.
