I think the change made two years ago was appropriate but the Legislature inexplicably left a gap, loophole or glitch in the legislation leaving us with 50% less representation for a five month period in the Senate than we are allowed. This should be corrected now not just for any pending legislation but to allow the State to be fully represented at all times now and in the future.
This is not ‘changing the rules’, ‘moving the goalposts’ or any other sports metaphor but does correct the gap that was created two years ago. If we need to talk in ‘sportspeak’ its like leaving Massachusetts without the opportunity to field a full team until the second quarter of the game. Lets have a full team on the field for all four quarters, all nine innings, etc., etc.

You’re right that we need to be wary of metaphorical thinking on this — metaphors can pull us in a lot of different directions.
