Dear Secretary DePaola and Commissioner Gillooly,

We would like to thank you for the completion of the draft Cambridge Street Road Safety Audit. Recent deaths along Cambridge Street have highlighted the unsafe conditions that have existed along the corridor for many years. The safety audit confirms that improvements can be made and should be made to create safer conditions as soon as possible.

The long term future of Cambridge Street is very bright; the I90 Allston Interchange Project will completely transform the streetscape and provide many opportunities to improve quality of life in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, the completion of the I90 project is still several years in the future. In the near-term, steps need to be taken to provide safer conditions for all users of this important road. The audit recommends several safety improvements, which we fully support. A group of residents wrote a letter of comment dated December 10th, 2014, which offers an analysis of the draft safety audit; we urge full consideration of the residents’ recommendations as well.

Thank you for your consideration of the recommendations.

Sincerely,

Senator William N. Brownsberger
Second Suffolk & Middlesex

Senator Sal N. DiDomenico

Representative Kevin G. Honan

Representative Michael J. Moran

Councilor Mark Ciommo
