The Office of Senator Will Brownsberger is accepting applications for part-time, unpaid, internships for the summer of 2023. There are two types of opportunities available – general office internships and legislative internships. All applications are due Monday, April 10, 2023.
- General Office Internships are designed for applicants in the beginning stages of exploring policy-making and government, seeking opportunities to learn more and refine their interests.
- Legislative Internships are designed for those who have already gained some experience, either professionally or academically, and are looking to delve deeper into a topic of interest.
General Office Internship
General office internships are designed for applicants in the beginning stages of exploring policy-making and government, seeking opportunities to learn more and refine their interests.
The general office internship offers a variety of learning opportunities through exposure to all facets of a legislative office, including policy research, constituent services, and the legislative process. The Senate also schedules optional daily seminars on different aspects of state government.
Hours:
The general office internship requires 15-20 hours a week for at least five weeks beginning in June and concluding at the end of July. A typical daily schedule will run from 9 AM – 3 PM unless otherwise requested. Our office is flexible in determining schedule needs if applicants wish to use this opportunity to satisfy school or other program requirements.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Completion of at least three years of high school or equivalent experience. Both high school and college level students are encouraged to apply.
2. The internship is open to all applicants with permanent residency, or who attend high school or college, in the Suffolk and Middlesex District.
Location:
Our team has a hybrid work model, and all interns are expected to work efficiently with team members both in-person and remotely. In-person work will take place in the State House office with some possibility of in-district meetings. A schedule for when interns work remotely or in-person will be determined at the final stage of the selection process on an individual basis.
How to Apply:
A cover letter and a resume should be sent to Kimberley Hutter: kimberley.hutter@masenate.gov. The application deadline is Monday, April 10, 2023. Interviews will be conducted in April and applicants will be notified of their status by Monday, May 1, 2023.
Legislative Internship
Legislative internships are designed for those who have already gained some experience, either professionally or academically, and are looking to delve deeper into a topic of interest.
The legislative internship requires the production of legislative research, written work products, and other work material. Legislative interns are expected to work closely with the legislative director and other team members on topical projects related to the Senator’s legislative priorities. Project details will be determined based on the applicant’s experience and interests. Legislative interns are also welcome to attend the optional daily seminars on different aspects of state government hosted by the Senate.
Hours:
Legislative internships begin in June; additional details on the schedule and duration of the opportunity will be dependent on the specific project. In past years, legislative interns’ work has fluctuated between 5 and 20 hours week to week, depending on project workflow, for an average of 8-10 weeks. Our office is flexible in determining schedule needs if applicants wish to use this opportunity to satisfy school or other program requirements.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Completion of at least three years of undergraduate studies or equivalent work experience. Graduate level and law students preferred.
2. The internship is open to all applicants with permanent residency or who attend school in the Suffolk and Middlesex District.
