Public Meeting: Massachusetts Avenue Bridge Replacement Project

From MassDOT:

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation invites you to a

Public Information Meeting
on Phase 3 of the

Massachusetts Avenue Bridge Replacement Project

Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 6:00 PM

Harvard Club of Boston
Aesculapian Room – 2nd Floor
374 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston

MassDOT has rescheduled this public information meeting previously announced for March 21. At this meeting, the project team will discuss construction and traffic management plans for Phase 3 of the project when the Massachusetts Avenue bridge over the Commonwealth Avenue bypass roadways is replaced. The full replacement requires closing Massachusetts Avenue to all modes of travel from 10:00 PM on Thursday, May 10, to 5:00 AM on Tuesday, May 15. Vehicle traffic on Massachusetts Avenue will be detoured during this time frame. A detour route map is posted on the project website. No parking will be allowed along the detour routes to maintain emergency access to area buildings and accommodate increased traffic volumes. View the no parking flyer for more details. Bicyclists and pedestrians will use the Charlesgate East and Hereford Street crossings during the four-day Massachusetts Avenue closure.

Additionally, there will be a 19-day closure of the east and westbound Commonwealth Avenue bypass roadways under the bridge from Saturday, May 5, through Wednesday, May 23. The closures are necessary for the contractor to have access to the bridge substructure to prepare for and complete the full bridge replacement.

Local access and parking will be maintained at all times on Massachusetts Avenue. Local access will be maintained on the Commonwealth Avenue surface roads; however, parking will not be permitted because they are detour routes.
