Will Brownsberger -- State Representative, Democrat, 24th Middlesex District

Local Aid Reference

This page collects links regarding local aid. Increasing aid allocations to the communities that I represent is a top priority for me, as it is for most state representatives.

For basic reference, see the following pages:

In addition to the major local programs examined on the pages listed above, the special education circuit breaker is a very important program. The Governor has proposed cutting this program in FY2011, but relatively modestly: See the Governor’s education budget.

Here are some additional resources:

  • Most of the state aid data in the charts on these pages come from the states Department of Revenue. The Division of Local Services maintains a municipal databank including full data on local aid.
  • For education aid distribution computations, see the Department of Education’s Chapter 70 page.
  • For the Governor’s proposal to study the Chapter 70 formula, see outside section 41 of House 2. This is a proposal which echoes legislation pending in the 2009-10 legislative session.
  • Spreadsheet regarding comparative and historical local aid prepared in 2008 during the FY2009 budget process. This includes some detail not available via the links above — it highlights the high relative value of the special education circuit-breaker for my communities — but otherwise, offers a basically similar analysis.
