Education stimulus funding proposal — tentative

The Governor’s announcement today of an allocation of stimulus funds for
education was good news for Belmont and Arlington (not for Cambridge).

However, it is very important that no one take this money to the bank.
There are already strong concerns being voiced by representatives of many
significantly stressed communities that are not helped by the allocation.
The governor has power to allocate this small slice of the aid pie, but most
of the local aid pie has yet to be allocated by the legislature.

In this connection, please see the attached letter to members from the House
Chair of the Education Committee: Education Chair Marty Walz Letter.

Needless to say, I will fight passionately to preserve this increased
funding for my communities, but please know that it may change considerably,
very likely in the down direction.

  1. From what I read in the local newspapers, it is very important that the old Wellington School be demolished and a new one built, hopefully with State aid.
