Access to the Ride — a complaint

Klemens Myer writes:

I submitted the following complaint to the MBTA this afternoon. I have redacted his name from this posting.

I received the following email last night from one of my patients, a man in his 70s who travels to Dialysis Clinic Inc./Boston, 35 Kneeland Street at Tufts Medical Center, for hemodialysis treatments every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning. I am VERY concerned by this apparent lapse in service.

Dr. Meyer,On 5/19/13 MBTA informed me to book an interview with them to see whether I am eligible for the Ride or not. I called and I never received an appointment to meet with them. Kathy asked me not to worry for people like me should be eligible. To-night I received no call from MBTA, so I called them for to-morrow’s schedule for Saturday’s pick up, the answer was I was not eligible for the Ride. The astonishing fact is that I have never receive an appointment for interview to see whether I am eligible for the Ride or not’ nor I have received notice in any form before to-night that I was not eligible. I hope you will look into this matter and give me an helping hand to take the Ride. At present, I am taking the MBTA chair-car because I have to use the walker and cannot climb stairs. To-morrow, my sis will come to pick me up….

We are happy to try to help with this. Please give my office a call on Monday morning at 617-722-1280 and share your patient’s name and contact information and we can follow up. Or, if you can have your patient contact us directly.

  1. I’m very pleased to report that the MBTA responded to my complaint, satisfying me as to process and my patient as to outcome. I received a prompt response, and was impressed at the level of detail of their record keeping. They reported, and I choose to believe this account, that the message the gentleman had left on their answering machine was too soft to understand, that they did not have a way of figuring out who had left it, and that he hadn’t called back. His access to the RIDE has been reinstated. Three cheers for government and social services that work!
